Windows 7: Win 7 install problem. You know, for a change of pace.

Did you check the ISO's integrity? This could stall the file loading. Try downloading again and burn using ImgBurn (never fails) at 4x with verify, then load new files into root of primary formatted USB key as a second try.

How exactly did you wipe your HDD? Is it pre-formatted?

Do you remember what settings were set back to default when you reset your BIOS? Are your drives correctly to IDE or SATA?

The Windows 7 version I have is the actual retail version. I didn't download an ISO or anything.

I reset my computer to factory settings. As for the IDE or SATA part you're talking about, I'm not sure what you mean.

You get MS excellent tech support with that retail Win7 purchase. Call them at the number which should be on the disk.

They will help you get it up and running.

I have found in the past MS Tech Support can be worth more than the price of the disk in the education I got.

There isn't a number on the disc for me to use.

I have tried calling MS support. The product key that came with my laptop won't work, and I can't get the product key for Windows 7 until I install the damn thing. Otherwise, it's 60 bucks to get tech support, and that's honestly money I can't afford.

Forget trying to do the upgrade install, instead do a custom install from scratch like this:

Remember, all PAYING customers must suffer more problems during installation than the pirates that download Windows 7 for free, in the false assumption that stringent upgrade activation measures will curb the wide spread piracy of Microsoft products.

Sorry I'm confused here. If you have a retail version of Win7 Update, why doesn't it come with a product key? Why would you have to wait til you get it installed to get the product key? A retail version buys you tech support, period.

If you have Vista on your laptop, why would you try that key with Win7 OEM? THere should be a product key in your Win7 OEM package. It is on a single card insert.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

The product key should be in the box the disk came in. I haven't even seen the Win7 box, just down loaded it. Try looking on the swing out section, on the side, unless they changed the box. Do OEM versions come in a box?

When you purchase an OEM version of a Windows product, you normally do not get the MS support. The Software support is provided by the OEM, if you didn't get the Win7 through an OEM (Gateway, Asus, Toshiba, etc) then you are the support, if you bought it through one of the OEM companies then they will provide the support.

You can get help here, on Seven Forums.

There are some very good Seven Forums tutorials on installation.
