    Dual Boot Question

I know there's a tutorial on this but I take it since that I have XP installed on my desktop that I just have to install Windows 7 on another partition and then use the program in the tutorial to help set up the dual boot screen?

If xp is installed now and you install win 7 it will seet up teh dual boot menu for you. Win 7 does have to go into a seperate partition.

That's right, keep it simple. Just create a new primary partition (if you are doing it one on physical disc, make sure you allocate enough space, i'd recommend 30-40Gb), get it formatted good, and install w7 onto it. If it's successful, you should not need to do any editting.

The boot manager will have 3 options like:

Earlier Version of Windows - this is your normal Xp boot into.
    Windows 7 option
    Recover option

I have two 250GB HDD with about 3 partitions on each. Windows 7 32bit will be going onto my J drive which is about 110GB which should work well.

But will the programs I installed in XP still work and want to access the internet by themselves?

dual booting is for both OSs in your machine, in separate partition. What u installed and used on your xp Os remains in the Xp partition, what in your Windows 7 Os will remain and be used only in W7 partition.

Btw, Why isnt your 3rd parition a E drive ? with F being your CD/DVD rom?

What is in between F and J?

Do u really need to have that many partitions? If not do me a a favour and merge all of them.

    C:\ is for Xp
partition it with D: (and E: if you need to)
    Once you're done,
    Installed W7 on D:

    Keep it simple mang!

Windows 7 will set up your dual boot during installation.

As aem sez keep it simple to avoid headaches.

BTW gettin rid of Xp is not going to be easy so consider this a practice run for when you want to remove the dual boot and clean install Win7 by itself.
