I know there's a tutorial on this but I take it since that I have XP installed on my desktop that I just have to install Windows 7 on another partition and then use the program in the tutorial to help set up the dual boot screen?
That's right, keep it simple. Just create a new primary partition (if you are doing it one on physical disc, make sure you allocate enough space, i'd recommend 30-40Gb), get it formatted good, and install w7 onto it. If it's successful, you should not need to do any editting.
The boot manager will have 3 options like:
Earlier Version of Windows - this is your normal Xp boot into.
Windows 7 option
Recover option
I have two 250GB HDD with about 3 partitions on each. Windows 7 32bit will be going onto my J drive which is about 110GB which should work well.
But will the programs I installed in XP still work and want to access the internet by themselves?
dual booting is for both OSs in your machine, in separate partition. What u installed and used on your xp Os remains in the Xp partition, what in your Windows 7 Os will remain and be used only in W7 partition.
Btw, Why isnt your 3rd parition a E drive ? with F being your CD/DVD rom?
What is in between F and J?
Do u really need to have that many partitions? If not do me a a favour and merge all of them.
C:\ is for Xp
partition it with D: (and E: if you need to)
Once you're done,
Installed W7 on D:
