Win 7 Home 64bit repair upgrade problems
Hello everyone,
Conduit trashed some files for me. IE 32 bit will not even open. Other addins/attachments to IE don't work with 64bit. Problems with Flash. Grrrrrr.....
Downloaded ISO from the Digital River site and IsotoUSB.exe file from CNET/Download.com (that had a PUP file imbedded - got a good file from the author location). Burnt a cd. Using instructions from http:// Windowssecrets.com/top-story/win7s-no-reformat-nondestructive-reinstall/ I began the process.
All went good, took a very long time (I did this to an XP computer last summer and it took less than an hour) at least 4 hours for Win 7.
First gatcha, a HP Keyboard QLB incompatability with the new install. Just deleted the HP program. Each time something happens you have to start over.... continued on.
At what I thought would be the very last install screen, fig 9 of the linked article, "Transfering files, etc......" the install stopped with a message something like "Setup cannot continue and must restart the computer and restore the [other] OS" or something like that. No error code numbers and only an "OK" and the re "x". What a #$@&*$@#*& !!! All that time and nothing to show. And it took a long time to restore the other Win 7.
Reread the instructions. Searched the web, found nothing...mmmm?? Disabled my virus software (MS SE), and MalWareBytes. Tried again. Now when the install gets to a certain place get the message that it must do a restart, when it does it goes to the "Install Now" page, not to a continue page. More grrrrrr!!
Delete all the Temp folders contents. Trying again. Seems to be running ok now. Like it did before.
FYI note, after the first failure I tried the USB that I had copied the ISO to. It stopped at the recursive "Install Now" page. So I went back to the disc. The USB might work, or I might have set something wrong or the temp folders contents might have caused that.... any comments on using a USB to upgrade ?
1. This is installing as I type, if it stops again at the "...must stop.." message near the end, any ideas what would cause it ?
2. I am only doing this to fix what Conduit ruined, any suggestions that don't involve a reformat ?
thanks
Fuzzy
