No need to format again, just select the correct partition and click Next.

If it fails report back the exact error message in full, and the step at which it fails in Clean Install Windows 7.

Then test your HD.

Okay so it finished and I let windows install normally. Then I came back after a little while and it doing a Chkdsk. That finished and rebooted and came to the Windows Error Recovery screen which asked if I wanted to boot into safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. so I let it do the startup normally and it rebooted and went into a Chkdsk again.

So obviously the formatting thing didn't work, it didn't last time either. What are my other options?

The test for my seagate drive came back clean. I did the long chkdsk (where I checked both of those boxes in the dialog) and restarted like it said and let it run. It took quite a while. I left the house and came back to see a windows dialog titled RecEnv.exe - Corrupt File The file or directory C:\$Sercure is corrupt and unusable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

So I clicked okay and it came up again, then clicked okay and eventually made it to a system recovery options screen where I ran the startup repair. The root cause error came back and said there were no OS files on the disk.

Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+.

Are you running Microsoft Security Essentials? Try uninstalling it to see if the problem goes away. Then reinstall it.

Next I would try a diagnostic install with a new ISO for your licensed version burned to DVD or flash stick from Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 .

Boot the installer to run Diskpart Clean All Command to get HD absolute cleanest. Then run the formatting commands from Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums .

Now from installer's Command Line run a full Option Two Disk Check.

Now install Win7 to the partition created. After install enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then Check for Updates to install all Important and Optional Updates, with requested reboots, until there are no more when you go back to Check for Updates. You can set up your desktop and browsers while this is proceeding.

Now run full Disk Check again.

Now install MSE or your AV using a freshly downloaded installer, test performance afterwards.

Do the same with each individual program you install, test performance afterwards. After the first group of programs, run Disk Check again.
