    New SSD hard drive

So I got my new SSD drive and I have hopefully saved my win 7 installation by imaging with reflect ..... think I'm about up to speed with that part of the operation, soon as I get my bigger external drive to save it on

so are there any preparations to be made to a new SSD drive, I mean does it need formatting?

its a 240gb crucial SSD drive at the mo just for windows operating system .... is this too big

No, the bigger the better if you can afford it, I have a 256GB SSD myself for OS and program, User and PrgramData is on a HDD.

Check these steps out, although Macrium will format and align the SSD but may leave an unallocated partition.

The size is fine mate as Britton says it is really a good starting size as the 120GB fills quite quickly and I use the same system set up as Britton does with my desktops anyway.
A good thing to do is and this is just my personal idiosyncrasy to make a back up of the registry after that first install
    Registry - Backup and Restore

and then I have a regular (weekly - you can set what time intervals you like) backup of the boot drive with this Imaging with free Macrium

If you do a new w7 install have only the SSD attached at the time. It's always best if only 1 drive is attached when installing Windows.

I would also use windows imaging, it doesn`t hurt to have more then 1 image.

Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Important: The image you create has to be smaller then the HDD/SSD you intend to put the image back on. ( It has to fit )
