Got to do a Windows 7 repair install, but questions

So I have to do a repair install because I have tried items in the forums here and in other websites to fix a Windows 7 update problem. Nothing has worked; even the FixIt's from Microsoft, sfc /scannow is also broken and I have been at it for a few hours; no viruses (did 7 scans with different A/V's) so probably faster to just do a repair install.

I will copy my profile and backup other things like my Firefox profile and what not. But a question, if I do this

    Repair Install

What about my installed programs; will they still be there?

Or do I need to make a list of them so I can reinstall those after I get my system up and running.

    Thanks

You should be able to keep most of your programs and user data/profiles following that guide, however, its always best to create a backup and make a list (or simply use the Snipping tool) of your installed programs.

Everything is kept in place except those items specified in the tutorial. But this can be a problem since some settings which are passed back through might be corrupt, so it isn't always effective. You might decide later to do a Clean Install Windows 7 in which case you should never reimport settings since they are a prime corruption path.
