Not sure what media key I have, it is just the one Digital River emailed to me.
I will try when I get home. I thought last night I tried not checking the ACTIVATE ONLINE.

    Hi,

Does it only work for the upgrade?
I was going to do the upgrade, but I had a bunch of crap on my vista drive, nothing important, so I decided to do a clean install.

Should I reinstall Vista, then try using the cd to do a upgrade?

**What happened was, I made the .iso disc, restarted the computer, asks to select the drive to install on, where Vista is, I accidentley deleted Vista! So I had to format the partition and install fresh Windows 7.
Does this mean I can only upgrade? that fine by me if thats the case.
If you still had Vista on your drive when you booted into the Installer, it would have scanned the HDD and seen the Vista before you formatted, passing a flag to accept the key and allow activation.

However if you formatted before and had a wiped or new drive, you have to use the workaround given here which MS announced today is legal:
