Windows 7 setup screen in 8 colors only

    Hello,

I have a problem with installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro on a Shuttle XPC SN27P2 and was wondering if anyone else had seen the same thing?

    Spec:

    Shuttle XPC SN27P2
    AMD AthlonTM 64x2
    4GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    Sound: Realtek ALC882 HD Audio
    Chipset: NVIDIA nForce® 570 MCP
    Graphics: PNY GeForce 6800 GTX

    Problem:

When I boot from the Windows 7 DVD the installation screen comes up in 8 colours only and the screen res looks like 640x480 on a screen that normally runs at 1600 x 1024 (this is what the original Windows XP installation ran).

Windows XP ran fine and did not have any of these problems (with the installer).

I am reluctant to proceed with the installer as I would prefer to iron out this problem before pushing on with the complete install.

    Has anyone else seen this?

    Tanx

I believe it's because there's no driver on the dvd for your Card. Just continue the installation and windows update will probably staighten this out in the end. If not, then go to the Nvidia site and see if they have the drivers.

Windows 7 Setup in 8 colors only

    Hi All,

So I took the advice offered here and completed the Windows 7 installation, then I allowed Windows Update to, em, Update. I had to find the nPower network driver and then the Nvidia GeForce 8 Vista drivers (I also tried the Windows 7 drivers). However, device manager tells me that it is not able to allocate enough resources for this device to function correctly.

    Looks like an IRQ conflict.

Really, I thought I left this sort of cr&*p behind with Windows 95.

I have spent an hour disabling devices and restarting the machine, but nothing works. I could do with some help here please?

Make sure you have the latest drivers for the chipset that's on the motherboard. Also, remove any peripherel cards. Next would be a call to tech support for shuttle and Microsoft. Sorry, but that's about all I got.

OK, this is an update and to report a resolution to this issue.

I was drawn to the fact that this seemed to be an IRQ conflict at a basic BIOS level and checked my firmware revision, which was a little (but not much) out of date.

After a strong Whisky I flashed the BIOS with the latest firmware from Shuttle and this immediately resolved the resolution issues which now give the anticipated 1600x1024.

There continues to be an issue with the LAN adapter, in that it is working and shows a happy device, but there is also an entry (in device manager) for a second LAN adapter which is not happy and complaining about incorrect drivers.

But this is just a driver sequence or version problem, which I can fix now I can see the screen.

    Thanks again for the support.
