Windows 7: How to Restore To Factory Settings

How to Restore To Factory Settings

I have recently had some serious problems with my computer, so I figured I should do a restore to factory settings, but I have also been having problems with that.

When I try to do it from the control panel, the computer restarts, but instead of the recovery options like normal, it gives a Windows boot error: 0xc000000f. I ran the Windows startup repair multiple times from the disk, but it still says the same thing.

When I try to do it by pressing F11 repeatedly during startup, it does the same thing.

When I try to do it from the Recovery Management section on the Repair Disk, the option to factory restore is greyed out.

I have access to my desktop, but it is extremely slow, so I prefer not to do anything involving that, but any ideas on how to fix this will be greatly appreciated.

You can download a legal copy of Windows 7 and do a Clean install if recovery doesn't work.

See here:

If this is a branded PC which I'd assume it is since you said it has Factory Recovery, then we have a tutorial to do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. This is a vastly superior install to the Factory install which is the worst install of Win7 one can have.

However some prefer Factory Recovery because of favorite OEM software or to sell the PC. In that case you can boot try Marking Recovery Partition Active then reboot to see if it will start. If not you can boot Recovery by creating a Dual Boot menu with it as shown here: Boot Recovery Partition using EasyBCD. I realize you said you didn't want to work inside the OS but it may be necessary to do that much.
