If you take the ram stick out, then will it start up? If not, then what confirms it is the ram?

Is the performance ok with the RAM removed? How much RAM does that leave you with?

If the RAM is fairly recent, the manufacturer's tech support should work with you to test/verify it's bunk and replace it. You can run a test on the RAM from the Repair console in the Installer, or from f8. Or you can download the superior Memtest86 and burn it to disk to run 4-6 passes which will confirm the RAM is bunk.

Did you do the memtest on the 3 gigs only? Or did you put the extra gig back in to test it, too? You might wanna verify it is bad, but first double check that it is exactly the right specs. Google your computer's make and model and see what the specs for RAM are. You can also google the serial off the RAM which works and see if it is the same specs as the gig which is problematic.

If you bought it within the past year, and you think it is bad or need help determing if it is the right RAM, then call the manufacturer and explain the situation to them and often they will support it to spec and verify it. Kingston is the best at this, right down the road here in Huntington Beach - they will replace any bad RAM forever.

Do you have the gig stick in the first memory slot and the two 512's in the #2 and #3 slots? Sometimes this matters, having the biggest stick in first slot.

512/512 is only a gig of RAM without the bad stick, right? A gig of working RAM is pushing it with Win7. You should call Kingston tech support and get it replaced.

If you take out the bad stick, does Win7 perform okay?
