Windows 7 setup stop in disk.sys on UEFI mode, but in BIOS mode it did
Hi everyone,
I'm attemping to install Windows 7 64 bits in a Sony vaio SVE14A25CLB laptop. Many threads in this forum already help me a lot to change the UEFI settings to boot from a DVD or USB device in UEFI mode and I clean the hard drive with diskpart. Also secure boot is disabled.
My System specs:
Sony Vaio SVE14A25CLB
Intel Core i5 -3210M, 2.50GHz
Sony Vaio Intel HM76 Express Chipset
4GB DDR3 SDRAM 799MHz
Intel HD Graphics 4000, AMD Radeon HD 7670M 1GB
HDD 750GB, 5400 rpm
My next opponent in this journey is while windows setup is loading the files, on UEFI mode, it just stop at loading the disk.sys file (checked in safe mode), but in Legacy mode (BIOS) the windows setup (DVD or USB) start without issues (this is how I managed use diskpart).
I don't think it could be due to hard drive or memory issues (I didn't run any tests yet), as the windows setup start normaly on Legacy mode and It install successfully Windows 7 on a MBR partition.
From factory, the laptop comes with Windows 8, but even if the general performance is very good, it was some "features" that bother me. So hard drive already has GPT and I want to keep that partition table mode in case I need to do a dual boot with windows 8 in the future.
After clean the hard drive I even created GPT partitions following these steps:
Sample: Configure UEFI/GPT-Based Hard Drive Partitions by Using Windows PE and DiskPart (see Sample DiskPart Script: Default Configuration)
I have the same issue loading the windows setup from DVD or USB device, even if I modify a sys file in the install.wim as show here Unable to complete Windows 7 installation : Stopped at system32\drivers\disk.sys - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki (I made it in the USB install.wim, using imagex.exe in images /1/ and /2/)
I'm using the latest ISO image available in digital river (Windows 7 64bits SP1 D R), I also used a custom ISO image made by a friend with same results. If I use a Windows 8 DVD, it start without issues, same for recovery disks.
Many thanks for your help in advance, I have been trying to install windows 7 since last weekend.
Sorry for my bad english, best regards from Mexico!
Edit:
Before I get rid of Windows 8, I updated the BIOS from Sony Support, (BIOS Update Ver. R0202V5, 8.1.0.1248), so BIOS is up to date. In BIOS setup it shows: Aptio Setup Utility ver. 2.15.1227.
I readed that option "ACPI APIC support" will cause the same issue that I have, but I don't that option in the BIOS setup.
Also, It seems this laptop doesn't have an utility to select a boot device (like pressing F10, it only has the "assist" button, or I didn't found it yet, on only has the boot order in BIOS) to check in which mode the instalation mode started, I assumed it will be UEFI because UEFI boot is enabled (I never see the boot enviroment detected line in setupact.log) and DVD or USB boot the instalation setup only failing at loading files and in Legacy mode, installation setup has a different behavior.
Sorry for the very long post!
