New computer corrupted Win 7 64 bit

Have a new HP ProDesk 300G i5 64bit with Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Svc Pack 1. During initial setup, I loaded a Canon scanner and the driver from the net (before I made a restore starting point, my bad) and the the software has screwed up my registry (and doesn't work). Tried cleaning it up and started getting start up error messages so I bought a new Windows 7 Pro 64 bit disk and tried to install it.

During the install, the screen gets all the way to the language screen and either freezes or the mouse and keyboard don't work. I researched other sevenforum threads plus other sites and did the move of the mouse to all the available USB ports and waited a long time to let the software catch up (suggestions made in other threads).

Any thoughts on how to completely clean the machine and start from scratch (I know computers, but not machine language and bios stuff).

Did you try to restore to an earlier point on boot? (F8)
For factory restore- It will format your disk and you're going to loose all your data.
