I am am trying to install (downgrade) my Windows 8 laptop to Win 7 pro 64bit when I boot from disc it gets to the Starting Windows part and just hangs there, any ideas what issue could be?
Secure boot is turned off. And I have tried disc on my desktop PC works perfectly fine. I burned the disc my self got a free copy of Win 7 from Dreamspark program.
How did you burn the disk? Did the ISO complete download? Try again burning disk to DVD with ImgBurn at 4x speed.
Did you boot the DVD as a UEFI device?
Is some level of CSM or Legacy enabled in BIOS? What are the settings choices for UEFI, CSM, Legacy and BIOS Boot Priority order? Pictures will help.
If UEFI continues to fail then what always works is to Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

Boot Mode is set to UEFI, however when I do select the HDD it always says UFD..?

Boot Mode is UEFI I can change it to Legacy, but will this remove or brick current windows 8? Bios Priority is HDD, UBUNTU (I have Linux on this) DVD. Or USB. I Usually during boot press F12 which brings up boot menu so I can choose which OS I wish to go in.
I am currently using rufus and making bootable USB this might work. EFI and GPT is a really big pain (Trust me, especially working with Linux + Windows!) I need to know does Win 7 have support for EFI and GPT, or should I change to Legacy and MBR?
Update: It has also crashed when I use a bootable USB. USB was set to GPT Partition for UEFI Computers on rufus. Time to move to legacy? What are consequences if I do?
Why are you concerned about Windows 8 booting? Are you trying to establish a Dual Boot. This is doable but may require more BIOS changes to enable some level of Compatibility, CSM, Legacy or similar. I asked you for all these settings choices. Pictures would help - attach using paper clip in reply box
If you don' t care about 8 then follow the Bypass steps I gave you.

I went and did it anyway. So thanks, however I never did this command in CMD
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT
I used the installer GUI to do it. But all in all it seems to be working fine!

edit: Oh I was concerned about windows 8 booting in case I bricked the laptop / OS I'd have something to boot in.
So you did the Clean command and what settings changes in BIOS, to help others?
