    Windows 7 64 bit won't finish installing

    Hello all,

Long time no post I know. But everything has been working fine, until lately. I have a PC with an MSI 890FXA-GD70 MoBo, AMD X6 1075T Phenom II processor, with a Muskin 223GB SSD, powered by a Thermltake 850W PSU with 4gigs of RAM.

Over the last few weeks the system has started to freeze system wide. Only the mouse cursor would work during the freeze ups. It would usually occur after several hours of use. No abnormally high temps detected. One weird thing two over the last several days I would get a message from Windows saying my anti-virus was off and to turn it on. I am using Bit Defender. I of course would open up Bit Ddefender and according to it everything was on and running normally.

To get the computer working again, I would have to do a power re-set via the power button to get the system working again. Today she took a total dump. No matter what I could not get windows past POST. The computer would just freeze at POST. Thinking I had a corrupt OS I reformatted the SSD and tried to install a fresh copy of Win 7 64bit.

Well, no go. Everything seemed to go well and when the system re-booted to finish the install, it went right back to the beginning of the OS system install screen. I can't seem to get beyond this step to finish the installation. This is after doing everything to the SSD as outlined below.

I'm fairly certain it's not the SSD. But I could be wrong. I took it out and using an adapter plugged it into my laptop. Checking the SSD properties via the laptop everything seemed to be fine. Although there was only 7gig of space taken up on the SSD, which was way to low for what should have been on it. So I re-formatted it via my laptop. So, what am I doing wrong? Or do I still have a hardware issue? Bad MoBo, memory or SSD?

    Thanks all, Bruce

Bruce, it seems that your installation media is booting and starting over at the restart required to complete the installation. Try this again but remove the media during the restart.

Another way to determine if the OS or the HD itself is involved in these freezes is to run with a boot disk awhile with the HD unplugged. A good one which is easy to use and gives you all web functions is https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...cy-backup.html

Thanks Greg. I gave it a few more shots and for what ever reason the install went as it should. Got the machine up and running no problems now. Thanks for the tips. My other problems seems to have stopped. Must have been some corrupted files on the ssd. Bruce
