I am currently on Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit and I have bought and downloaded Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

I have used the upgrade adviser and it says:

Information about upgrading to 64-bit Windows 7

Custom installation required You'll need to perform a custom installation of 64-bit Windows 7 and then reinstall your programs. Make sure to back up your files before you begin.

Windows Mail and Parental Controls (Web Filtering) These features are no longer included in Windows 7. You can get similar programs for Windows 7 from other software manufacturers.

Now wants I start installing it fills up the green bar and then when there's just a bit left to go I get the error message:

An error has occurred. Unspecified error

Anyone got any idea of what's going on?

In order to upgrade from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS, you have to do a custom installation. There is no upgrade path when moving to a 64 bit OS. I highly recommend you take a look here:

If you have upgrade media, you can still do a clean install:

Unfortunately I am not a very tech savvy person and have honestly got no idea but from what I understand the three options given there are for when you boot up the comp however all I have is an .exe file.
