    Win 7 64bit installation trouble

I am attempting a clean install from Vista 32bit to Win 7 64bit. I understand that you can not just run the disk but have to boot from the disk. My problem seems to be that the 64bit installation disk wont boot when I try to boot the installer from it. The screen just goes blank and my computer restarts. I tried changing my BIOS settings so that the cd/dvd had boot priority but that didn't work either. I am using a Dell XPS M1210 laptop with BIOS version A08.

Did you burn this DVD yourself, or is it store bought?

I started the installation on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop which comes with Windows Vista Home Professional (64 bit) OEM edition preinstalled. I shrink C: drive and created a new partition D: before starting the installation. I am trying to install it in D: drive.

Here is the problem that I'm facing.

The installation proceeds as usual. But when it comes to "Expanding Windows files" section and once it reaches 29% it is hanging up for more than an hour now. I tried a with a restart and still it is hanging up at 29%.

Could someone please provide me the workaround for this.

After eagerly waiting and downloading it, kind off struck feeling now.

    Please help me out.

Use a linux live boot cd of your choosing to delete all partitions on the drive. When done, install Win7 by booting to DVD.

Never used it before, but gparted is probably a good choice.

Only do so if you have no data you need to keep.

I found this on the Internet.
Windows 7 install hangs at 21% step 3 expanding files.

    I figured it out

    Guys,

    Thanks for your replies.

I figured it out by creating a bootable USB disk from the Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit iso file from MSDN. When I boot it up from the USB drive, the installation got completed in less than 15 minutes. And now I started exploring the new era of Windows 7.
