Check bios for "Plug and Play OS." Set it to yes if it's currently no. Also, run it under "optimized default settings" or similar.

I tried it with everything set to default first. Then changed the hard drive setting to IDE from AHCI. Didn't help. There is no plug and play OS option in the BIOS. I now have windows 7 running on it, I just have to restart it overnight because it takes hours to boot back up. Im not sure if this is related at all but the cpu usage is constantly at about 60 to 80 percent. resource monitor shows this is because of system interrupts. From what I've read this sounds like a conflict with some device driver. I tried disabling things in device manager but nothing had any effect. Is there any chance that these are related problems? Windows runs just fine other than the high cpu usage and hours long boot up time.

Hi.

Start to safe mode + networking and do a Windows Update. Visit your motherboard manufacturer's website and try to update everything that is new, including the bios and chipset drivers.

Basically update every driver you could, including for the wireless adapter if you have one.

The above steps should leave you well off with a decently running machine.

I have updated everything I can think of. BIOS, chipset driver, VGA driver, touchpad driver, sound driver, wireless driver, LAN driver. I also tried disabling devices in the device manager. Nothing has worked. It seems to be booting in about a half hour now instead of several hours, but this is still unacceptably long.
