DomUK, as Pauly said, this is quite unusual. Would you please check both the data and power cables going to your hard drive on both ends of the cable. Do you have the Windows installation disk? Also, With the drive connected amd the computer starting up, can you either hear the drive spin up or can you put your hand on it and see if you feel the disks spin up?

It seems I am a slow typer, I have been beat to the punch by a couple of excellent suggestions. I would suggest trying them all.

I know very little about Hybrid Discs. IMHO you should make it sure that the disc supports SATAII standard.

Also, try AHCI storage controller mode. AHCI with IRST/Smart Response may revive the SSHD in the system.

    Hi all

I think the HDDs have been plugged into every SATA port at some point or other, but not in a methodical way.

I have cleared CMOS a few times which sets everything to Optimized Defaults.

I did try the Seagate in a HP Pavillion but the Seagate didn't even show up in the BIOS.

I am going to try a Clean Install of Windows 10 using a USB. I plan to disconnect all but the Seagate HDD and install via USB; which would rule out any conflict between SATA devices?

Thank you for all your help. I won't have time to do this tonight. But I will keep you appraised and mark the problem as Solved if I'm successful.

DomUK, I would recommend you try every suggestion that has been offered. All are very good, especially trying it on another machine.

It`s showing up in the bios, so it has to be working.

    Personally I`d return it.

That is a good decision. Windows 10 Technical Preview - Clean Install[1]=General%20Tips

When you are at step 9,
Does it say anything there that windows cannot be installed in that disc? If so, is there any reason stated?

Whatever, this step will tell you about the nature of the issue.

What are the settings in BIOS setup for UEFI, CSM, Legacy BIOS, SATA controller and BIOS Boot Priority order?

The drive may not be seen because it is not initialized as GPT (for UEFI) or MBR (for CSM or Legacy BIOS).

Test the HD with Seagate Seatools from disk or Windows. Is it detected? Have you replaced the cable?

Have you attempted to Clean Install Win7 yet? Everything needed to get and keep a perfect install is in the Reinstall link below.

Can I just ask what is showing in DISKPART? I find usually any drives now being listed in the other areas is found there.
Now having installed one of the ?hybrid drives in my partners laptop I found that I had to clone partitions one by one because of the difference in drive sizes but it should not be an issue here. But if done that way the unallocated partition could be uitilised via Partition Wizard or I am sure Greg would know via DISKPART.

For the cloning I always use Macrium free.

The drive may not be seen because it is not initialized as GPT (for UEFI) or MBR (for CSM or Legacy BIOS).

I was going to mention this earlier Greg, but he should`ve gotten a window when he hooked it up saying it had to be initialized.

Only his original drive is showing in diskpart John. (According to post #1)

Sorry mate missed the ref in post #1

I must admit I am a little confused as to the different BIOS set up's - just a bit OT my new ROG laptop has some sort of BIOS that I don't understand seems to be like a legacy and yet not really EUFI.

Anyway that is besides the point I thought I would mention it as they seem to change around a bit.

I'll let you blokes sort this one
