I installed new ram - Alert! Memory configuration mismatch!

Alright, I recently installed new ram in my dell precision T5400.
It came with 2GB already installed but I decided it was time for an upgrade. I installed the ram and followed all the steps I went onto my system and found out it said Installed memory (RAM) 6.00 GB (2.00 GB usable) Also when I start up my computer it says:

Alert! Memory configuration mismatch!
Please enter Setup Memory Info details.
Strike the F1 key to continue. F2 to run the setup utility
Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics

I then press F2 and look at my memory it says

Ignore the ' - ', it was the only way for separating it.

Whilst you are correct regards regards the 32 bit limitations I suspect your issue is that you have a matched pair running in dual channel mode and you have tried to add a single stick which will not run in dual channel as there is only one, I think the organization column indicates this

Found the following info that addresses a similar problem:

Problem, you are Mix-Matching RAM in the same primary channel.
Use CPU-z and look at the JEDEC 'SPD' tab of all the slots

CPU-z -> http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html




You need to see if there is one column for all three slots that shows the same information. You may then have to go back into the BIOS to set the timings manually if they are not set to what you see.

I recently upgraded my memory from 1066 to 1600 and, using the info from CPU-Z, went into my BIOS to change the memory speed to 1600.

Also, I discovered a "patch" that allowed the PAE kernel to actually work on Win8 so that now, I can use all 8GB of memory in my 32-bit install. If you're interested, then let me know and I'll pass along the info. But, be sure to make an image backup of your install first, so that you can restore it if the patch goes badly.

You have to have the ram in the correct slots to run in dual channel, with only 3 sticks in it may not run in DC, consult the MB manual.

I would most definitely install 64 bit, after all you have 8 memory slots and a Xeon

I would of though a manufacture would only put a 32 bit os on a laptop for better battery life :/
Doesn't make much sense on a desktop ?
