So you have set one OS as first hard drive to boot in BIOS setup, then boot the other using the one-time BIOS Boot menu key?
This is the cleanest method of Dual Boot anyway.
However since both of the hard drives are now independently bootable, you can install EasyBCD to Win7 to add XP to a Dual Boot and now each will remain independent whle you'll still have the Windows Boot Menu which many find easier.
