How do I force Win7 to install using MBR (not GPT)?

    Hi,

My motherboard supports UEFI but I find it to be buggy and rather unstable. I would like to do a clean reinstall and go back to legacy BIOS+MBR. I don't have any drives over 4TB so this should not be a problem.

    How can I accomplish this?

Far wiser techs than I will appear eventually and ask for computer specs [mobo], UEFI/BIOS version, etc. I think there is a thread or two on what to include with this type of question. I'm new here, so I can't tell you where those help threads are.

It's an ASUS Z-87 with the stock BIOS/UEFI, and I've only got a single internal drive on this machine, so the guides I've been able to find can't help me, as they all assume you have a 2nd drive, so you can just do it from "device management". But obviously you can't do this on the drive that Windows inhabits, while Windows is still running.

You simply convert the drive to MBR using Diskpart, and you disable UEFI in the bios.

Convert GPT Disk to MBR Disk

    Option 2 Step 2

    Then just install windows.

    Clean Install Windows 7
