application installed doesn't show control panel - programs & features

When installing applications they appear to install correctly. An icon is created on the desktop and I can access the program.

In control panel under programs and features... the application is not showing up. I cannot uninstall the programs, because they aren't showing in programs and features to uninstall.

Yes, workarounds can be used to delete the program, but there is something wrong. The programs are not installing properly.

I ran sfc/ scannow as admin no problems indicated

Thought I should add this... When I right click on the installer/setup exe file and select to run as administrator the installer works and does show up in programs and features... Also, I can delete the program as well from programs and features.

I have never had to do this before even though I am admin...(in name mostly) unless I am willing to allow more vulnerability to my system by turning on all the time. Still having to run as admin does seem a bit much for installing programs. The worst part...the installer will run, installs the program, yet leaves off the ability to uninstall or change in the programs and features page of control panel

Have a look at this MS website & see if there is anything there to help you. There are some links you can follow & there is a "fixit" there as well in one of those links.
Injudicious & over use of registry cleaners is one of the causes.

I read the bit about using something too much...

Sounds like an excuse to me. Then of course most people have never used the old DOS versions and don't realize how terrific they were. The windows was usurped upon us all, because of all the dumb butts that refused to read documents. Most people don't realize that the Astronauts went to the moon with little more than a Radio Shack TRS80 computer with 32Kb of ram memory. Not 32 mb, or 32 gb..but 32,000 bytes of ram.

In other words, the windows OS are now monstrous and overstuffed beasts. Always pushing for more software and more hardware. There is nothing on the horizon either. We are working with 30+ year old technology that has been messed with so darn much and patched over so many times it is almost a miracle computers work at all.

Why don't we have new processors? Why do we continue to get the same processors with more cores?

IMO, the chinese build the computers and are doing alot of the things previously done by innovators. The Chinese are copiers, not innovators. The Chinese aren't going to make the big push for change...afterall a computer is a computer, like a piece of pipe is a piece of pipe.

Everyday there are updates to Windows 7 and the list of already released updates is huge. Patches on patches on patches on patches, etc.etc.

Isn't it funny how all the real fixes eventually take us to the CMD line?
DOS, yeah that is where they take us when all else fails.
The core of the operating system is where we go to circumvent the junk code on the front side.

The future of computing is probably peaked for some time to come, unless the American government changes attitudes toward business and entrepreurship.

We can't expect much out of Apple either. Steve Jobs is dead, and all the take charge from him making people do the quality thing based on his judgments = gone. Apple will evolve to being run by committees and people too afraid or stupid about innovation to make decisions for fear of losing their job.

I apologize for the rant, annoys me when MSFT the principal inhibitor of real innovation basically blames the problems on users and their blotted crap operating systems are the problem.

Apart from the rant, did the solution work & did you get the problem fixed.

Actually Windows 7 does not need registry cleaners & a lot of long term users on this site don't recommend regular use of them.

Here is what I found. I was using an installer utility developed and recommended by the company whose applications I was installing.

Their installer was causing the problems because it was leaving out code required by Windows 7 to create the entries for the programs and features. In turn it was not showing the application when installed, nor was it showing anything in the programs and features. The program seemed to install and work correctly, but it was not evidenced in the programs and features panel. I could not access the program from programs and features to change, or uninstall it.

I finally guessed the solution.

I ceased to use the developer's installer. I right clicked on the application pack I downloaded and selected run as administrator. The program then installed correctly and everything is as it should be.

The programs are not installing properly.

A lot of us could've guessed it for you, if you did not use plural :)

The programs are from DAZ3d.com

Daz has an Install Manager application, which includes a content management application as well.
The Install Manager has significant value to 3d animators who have to manage alot of graphic content.

The Installer does an excellent job of managing content, but there are still issues that are creeping anomalies in the software.

I spent a couple days trying workarounds and found the best solution was to ignore the ability of their Install Manager to install applications. It works well as far as I can tell for installing and managing graphic content files.

I have learned it is best practice to install most applications in this way, right click and run as administrator. Always look for some way to do a custom install as the application goes through the install process. Selecting the default will generally install on your system drive or C:\

One thing I have also found with alot of recently developed software. The developers, with the increased capacity of hard drives and cheap prices default their installations to C: drive. I have a 128gb SSD, and that puppy was full up so fast. I now do workarounds on application installs to preserve enough memory on the SSD.
