New SSD hard drive and now dosn't recognise inserted Media

    Hi there,

What i thought was an easy job installing a new ssd h/d. I am running Windows 7 H/P and i am unable to install all the drivers back on the laptop. I have all the drivers from Dell website but as i said the machine is not recognising any inserted media.

    Thanks in advance

How did you install the new SSD? Did you follow a tutorial and if so, please provide a link to it.

Where are the drivers stored, on a CD/DVD or flash drive or SD card? If on a CD/DVD, try putting on a flash drive.

Thanks for that ZTruker!!...Answer to your questions there, no i did'nt follow any guidance, i have done a few tricky ones like sony vaios so i'm thinking this is easy and have done a few, until this one. I installed the old hard drive into a thinkpad and i was surprised to see it self-installing all it's own drivers from thinkpad. I have the XPS Dell drivers on a usb and dvd yes but won't recognice either. Every disk i try and windows wants to burns files, it see's every disk empty? I can't get on the net with it as the windows network adapter is no good, it's keeps trying to install the network adapter everytime i restart. I can't even get to re-install from usb or dvd. I have tried every thing. I'm on a Dell M5040 and i did the exact same thing as i did with the XPS when i installed an ssd. Pffft... Oh, i tried a network cable to a working laptop while on the internet, no joy there? Hope that helps...Wish i'd found this site sooner!

Win7 is a driver-complete OS not needing us to force a bunch of drivers it may not want. Follow the steps to do a Clean Reinstall Windows 7, especially the steps in red which deal with how drivers are best handled. After getting online by if necessary installing the LAN drivers you've saved, don't import any until all Updates are run - after which usually only a few need to be imported from the Dell page for your tag number.
