Win 7 install to UEFI / GPT

If you have the UEFI flash stick plugged in then it is not listed or it would be shown there in that Priority Order list. You must choose the stick as a UEFI device and nothing else or it will not install to UEFI. And it must be formatted using only Option One of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.

I would also enable F12 Boot Menu and move Windows Boot Manager to the top in BIOS setup Boot Priority order. Then choose the stick from the F12 menu at boot. This will prevent the stick starting the install all over again during the install reboots.

Sorry but I use the laptop all the time so when I took the images I was not booting to the USB but to windows 8. When I need to boot from the USB then it is in the list so that I can boot from it.

I notice you have USB hard drive (possibly flash stick) and internal hard drive set to boot before Windows Boot manager in BIOS Boot Priority order. You also say you are using Windows 8 on the laptop. This is strange because it would indicate if the hard drive is set first that you may have Windows 8 in a Legacy install to an MBR hard drive, otherwise the Windows Boot Manager should be first since it is used to boot UEFI installs. Please explain this if possible.

If this is the case then to install a Dual Boot to Windows 8 would require reformatting the flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool and booting it as a Legacy device and not UEFI.

If you only want a UEFI install and intend to wipe out Windows 8 during install, then format the stick again using only Option One of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows and make sure you get the settings shown in the picture exactly correct.

Enter BIOS setup to disable Secure Boot, enable f12 boot key, set Windows Boot Manager as first device to boot, save changes and Exit.
Then boot the stick by tapping F12 key at boot, select stick as a UEFI device to try install with Secure Boot disabled.

If you're in doubt about whether Windows 8 is UEFI then please post back a screenshot of Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image but the hard drive would not normally be set before Windows Boot manager if you have a UEFI install.

I have tried many many times and combinations and tools USB flash drive and a USB hard drive since November and always get the same result.
I am not concerned with dual booting yet that is for further down the road once I have windows 7 installed.
The image below shows how my hard drive is set up at present but I have totally wiped this and formatted to only one partition before attempting to install seven previously. Secure boot is always disabled but always same point of install failure.
Can you confirm please that I should be able to install windows 7 on UEFI / GPT I am not trying to do something out of the ordinary am I?

Why would you think you could install to that mess? Trying to install Win7 on UEFI almost always requires at least deleting all partitions. I only discussed how you could try to install it to existing Windows 8 as a Dual Boot since you said you wanted that, and because I've been able to do so on about half of the hardware I've tested. If you don't want a Dual Boot then you obviously need to delete all partitions at the minimum, and may need to Clean the drive from the steps to Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums.

I've now discussed several times how Windows Boot Manager must be set to boot, how the flash stick must be precisely formatted, how it should be booted via F12 key (now disabled in BIOS) then all partitions deleted if you don't want to test a Dual Boot install. Yet no matter how many times I type out these steps there seems to be no comprehension of them or interaction at all.

We are the only forums on the web that even attempts to sort out every BIOS' UEFI install, and we have help requests for this every few minutes. So We need you to go back and focus on what has been written out for you, use it as a checklist so that when you return you have tried everything exactly as suggested and are reporting back results and not just complaining that you've tried everything and it doesn't work. Those who repeat generalized complaints while avoiding sharp focus on the specific steps we've given are usually just spinning their wheels.

Sorry I wasn’t trying to complain it just that I have tried so many options over the last 2 months. I use this laptop as my primary business computer so to actually clean the drives again I have to wait to the weekend back up everything and then start to “have a play” and make sure I can get back to windows 8 for actually using this machine. As I mentioned though I have not used “this mess” I have actually had a clean freshly initialised GPT drive to install on from a USB. If you are confident I should be able to achieve a windows 7 under UEFI / GPT then I am going to keep trying.

You cannot install Windows 7 if the drive is plugged in via USB. Is this what you were trying to do? You'll need to install the target drive in the laptop then follow the other steps I've given you repeatedly.

No it does not. This is never successful and not at all supported here. The USB controller throttles performance too much to make it even worth trying.

Later editions in Windows 8 and Windows 10 support this.
