win 7 install from vista questions

not sure if this is the right forum but here goes

Will win7 recognize and use memory over the 4GB limit the existed in Vista??

I don't think I can somehow reload the Acer eRecovery to Win7 so I should wipe out the partitions and cover recovery dvd's or removable media correct?

Windows 7 Pro 64 bit

32 bit Windows 7 is limited to 4 GB RAM of which typically about 3.25 GB will be accessible. This is the same as Vista and all later 32 bit versions of Windows. Do not expect this to change in a 32 bit OS.

For a 64 bit OS the limit depends on the edition of Windows:
Windows Home Basic: 8 GB
Windows Home Premium 16 GB
All others: 192 GB

See this for more information:

Of course your hardware will also impose a RAM limit. The effective limit will be whichever is the lowest.

Delete all partitions to do a Clean Install Windows 7.

For 4 gb RAM I would use 64 bit, for 3gb or less use 32 bit.

There are also tips here that will help you remember everything to back up from the old install, how to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7

Thanks for the replies, this is a 64 bit implementation, so the limit is the Intel Chip which is the Dual Core T7500 @ 2.2Ghz, and I will check that. I backed up everything I wanted from the old install and can update Biometric and Camera drivers so I am good there.

I think I sense agreement on doing away the eRecovery partition unless Acer happens to have one I can download which I doubt.

Win-7-Pro64bit 7-H-Prem-64bit

Depends on the win-7 media,
If the media is not a Upgrade copy version it's safe to ditch the Vista recovery or seek out a full installer of Vista from the manufacture,

If the 7 media is retail or oem you can get rid of the Vista recovery stuff and do a clean install of 7.
