Windows 7 reinstaller

Hi All,
I just bought an HP Pavillion laptop with windows 7 preinstalled but I did not get any windows 7 installation CD/DVD with it. If incase I want to format my drive, is there a way to create the installation dvd. I have created a recovery disk, but it has very little data so I dont think it is of any use for reinstallation. How can I get a reinstaller ?

What I would do is make a system image (after activation) then put it away. If you ever want to format you can do so, and then just use the image that you made rather than reinstall.

Your license key on bottom of case will activate a clean copy of Win7, so be on the lookout for one to borrow from a friend, etc, to do a truly clean install without the factory bloatware.

In the meantime, type Backup in start box and create a system image you can store in a primary partition for easy reimaging of the HDD.

Be sure to back up a copy externally in case of HDD failure.

When you make the image it will offer to make you a Repair disk which boots you into win7 Repair console, where you can Recover with an Image in 15 minutes.

HP computers come with a recovery partition, not recovery disks. You can create recovery disks from it, and they DO contain everything needed for a reinstall. It requires at least one DVD to create.

FYI, the license code on the case will NOT activate a clean installation.

I should have said the license key on the case is a batch key which will require a robo call to MS to activate. They sort out the exact key number from the batch key when you call.

I specialize in clean reinstalls, so am familar with using clean installation media to reinstall OS's on machines which only come with recovery partition/disks larded with bloatware.

There are a growing number of hurdles to get the cleanest possible install, having to do with the manufacturers' desire to protect bloatware since it provides much of the profit margin. But it can be done.
