There are OEM versions $150-180 [which marry its OS to one computer] and Microsoft blue-disk $200-300, which can be moved [but not copied] from computer to computer. Make sure retailer or computer store sells you what you want.

Windows 8 PRO is often eligible for a "downgrade" to Windows 7.

Windows 7 "Retail" is long discontinued and is not available in any retail store. In fact, there are no Win7 "retail" copies available anywhere in the world except private sellers who want $$$$$

You can find OEM/System Builder copies from NewEgg, or a retail store like Fry's that caters to computer builders.

Downgrades are usually only available at time of purchase of the machine itself, and require the media to be provided by the manufacturer - this would certainly cost extra if not provided at time of purchase (and may not be available at all).

Altex of Austin TX still has legal OEMs and true-blues of Windows 7.

Don't even think about installing x64 if you have less than 4GB RAM on your machine - and don't bother installing x86/32-bit if you have more

    My thoughts ?

Always install 64 bit on a 64 bit capable cpu, you can always add more memory :)
