PXE Error when installing windows 7 from SD card.

    Hi everyone,

My windows 7 had some kind of problem related with DirectX. I contacted the manufacturer of the laptop, and they recommended a clean windows install.

I used the the tool from the windows website to make a bootable SD card. The installation started, then failed half way, and then whenever i tried to boot from the SD card, I got a "PXE Error, now exiting" message. I had not changed anything in the BIOS.

The computer does not have a CD drive, and I only have a 1GB flash drive. I formatted both hard drives and installed windows XP from the USB. Since windows XP didn't have wireless drivers for my card, I then installed ubuntu from the USB drive just to have a working laptop. All the hardware works in linux, and I can even use the SD card reader.

The SD card is my only option to solve the problem right now.

Sorry for the long story, any advice would be appreciated. I need to game! The game selection on linux makes me want to cry....

P.S I have activation codes for Windows 7 Home premium (from my old laptop), and Windows 7 Utimate (from my current laptop)

TL; DR PXE error when trying to boot windows from sd card

Installing Windows 7 from an SD card is not supported. You need at least a 4 GB drive, they're so cheap:)

After buying or borrowing from a friend, use the bootable DVD/USB tool from Microsoft to make the bootable USB. Installation should go normally.

PXE is a boot option which uses the network.

Hi, today i finally got the idea to put my hard drive in my old laptop, and install off the same SD card, then put the hard drive back in the new one. Worked perfectly.

The windows USB/CD tool also works on sd cards , you just have to choose the USB option when installing.

So the problem is resolved, but thank you for your help.
