Thank you for the information. I've convinced my friend Chris to but a copy. I've installed my Pro version and not activated it yet so he can use the computer, he will buy the same retail version as I have so all shoud go well.

I want to once again than everyone for their answers which brought my some new information, and my friend (and I) some wise pointers.

If necessary to activate Home Premium he can Change between Win7 versions workaround.

It discusses how to obtain media by borrowing your Pro copy to extract ISO and unlock all versions in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall Windows 7 or he can use disk that comes with his purchase.

Thanks all for the advice here. I persuaded him in the end he'd be better off buying a version which he did. At least he now knows there'll be no issues in the future.
