Windows 7: So far so good!

Windows 7 Enterprise
So far so good!

Hello, My name is Rob and I can say that I am pretty much a noob when it comes to computer OS'. What I can say is that Windows 7 installed very easily on my 3 year old Everex (now defunct) Stepnote SA2050T. It originally shipped with XP media center edition and I managed to get Linux Ubuntu loaded up. I actually had Ubuntu 9.04 working very well after much internet research to get all of the hardware working (but the SD card reader would no longer work, which was a known Ubuntu issue). I had then upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 and I no longer could use some functionality like internet sharing with my Windows Mobile 6 cellphone. My company offers software at very competitive prices and I purchased Windows 7. I used the install disk to repartition and format the Everex HD from the Linux OS and then proceeded with the install of the Win7. Everything went great, it took about an hour and then a little more time for the latest updates to download/install. But the most amazing part was that everything worked hardware wise, the screen resolution, both wired and wireless internet, and even the SD card reader came back to life. And I am most please about the fact that my cellphone used as a 3G modem via the ATT wireless network worked immediately. As I indicated, "so far so good", but this has been the easiest install of Windows ever!

Windows 7 Enterprise

Well, I could not be more happier with Windows 7 coming from Ubuntu. My job relies on Linux/Unix as an operating system for proprietary design tools. I went to Linux on my old Everex last year thinking that everything would work and easy to setup. I would say that I was always 97% happy with Ubuntu. It took many hours of web searches to fine tune the things that I wanted to do, but some things I could not manipulate all of the files that could be modified. If I had more experience in programming and file compiling, I probably could have custom made my fixes. But back to Windows 7, as I indicated earlier, to my amazement the SD card reader came back alive and I easily was able to connect my Windows Mobile 6 phone to connect to the the ATT 3G network. From previous research, many indicated that they had problems in file sharing with XP computers on their home network. Again, although the menu structure is different than XP, the terminology of the icon descriptions slightly different (if I had a Vista PC, this would not be an issue) I was able to quick add the Windows 7 laptop into my home network. I think it was faster than when I first created a XP home network and tried to get two XP computes to "talk". Now that I passed the hurdles that previously were harder to jump, I now can explore the functions of Windows 7 and the Media Center so that I can start accessing my music and video files in different location in my home. I realize that other installs have not been so smooth, but every PC is different.

Windows 7 Enterprise

Okay, everything is outstanding now! Again, I tried to work with various versions of Ubuntu Linux, but Windows 7 is the best for my old Everex SA2050T laptop. Everex is actually out of business in the US now and there is zero factory support what so ever.

During the week of Thanksgiving, I took a family vacation to Hawaii. I have nothing but positives to say about Windows 7.

a. Excellent free WiFi connectivity at the airport
b. Fast connection via my cellphone to the internet in HI
c. Easy WiFi setup at my timeshare and continuous connectivity while we were there
d. Bonus - I use the program LogMeIn to check on my home PC's, Ubuntu had a problem with this Windows based program. But Windows 7 and the Google Chrome browser allowed LogMeIn to work flawlessly

I am not a super user, I don't think I was taxing the Ubuntu platform with my operational requests, I am just glad Windows 7 allowed me to do exactly what I expected for once.

I am planning on upgrading my other XP home machines soon.[/LIST]

good music player with good Equalizer?
Does anybody know of a good music player that has a good Equalizer? IMO, the equalizer sucks for WMP 11, realplayer free, and my sound card. I like the PowerAMP app for my android, the equalizer has a sick bass. but it's not available on pc.
