    Windows 7 update errors

I have a Sony Vaio laptop PCG-71911M which is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. The laptop has been left unattended for a few years and whilst working ok refuses point blank to install any Windows Updates (even though its states there are 78!!!).

I have tried the SURT which asks if I want to install Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) but if I click yes it won't install and the SFC /Scannow stops after 12% saying Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

Presumably one of more of the updates is faulty but as there are 78 I don't really know where to start???

Try Troubleshoot problems with installing updates - Windows Help.

Run SFC /SCANNOW Command to check for corruption of System files.

If corrupt files cannot be repaired consider a Repair Install.

However if this is still the factory install that is the worst install of Win7 one can have, larded with corrupting bloatware and duplicate utilities that interfere with better versions built into Win7. Most tech enthusiasts will never run a factory install and prefer to Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best for Win7 in tens of thousands of installs we've directly helped with here.

Until then you can also regain some performance following Clean Up Factory Bloatware
