How to figure out what went wrong with Win7 Repair Install?

I used this site's excellent tutorial How to Do a Repair Install to Fix Windows 7 (for which I am extremely grateful!)

The repair install failed at the end, but it only gave some extremely vague error message which is of exactly zero value in determining what went wrong!

I can boot up with a variety of bootable USBs I have that will allow me to examine the drive, but I have no idea what to look for or where to look for it.

Can anyone help me with this, please?

This is really more complicated than its worth when you consider that you can have a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles the best Win7 install in the world, in about half the time it will take to sort the Repair INstall failure.

However if you want to try then refer to the Panther folder logs shown in this KB to see what the last failure events are during Setup: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/927521

Thanks, but I respectfully yet very strongly disagree!

The last time I performed a clean install, it took me nearly three WEEKS to re-install all of my apps and then carefully set them all up again with the settings and options and paths I want -- what a nightmare! I'd almost rather do without a computer at all than perform another clean install...

Thanks for that link, I'll inspect the logs. But it certainly won't take me as long to find the problem with the repair install as it would to perform a clean install and then re-install everything else...

If it took you three weeks to do a reinstall then I suggest you look over the steps in the tutorial which over 1.5 million consumers have used without a single complaint. I've never heard of one taking more than a few hours even if stretched over several days By their choice.

The install is everything. My guess is you have a junk install. Well we specialize in the best installs in the world which has helped make this the undisputed top tech forums in history.
