You would remove the old hard drive, install the SSD, and then use your install media to install Windows onto the SSD.

You can delete partitions from the SSD and attempt to reinstall just as you would on the old drive.

It's possible but highly unlikely that the SSD is broken.

Do you have a legal Windows 7 installation disk? If you do, disconnect all drives except the SSD, boot from the installation disk, delete ALL partitions on the SSD, and see if the install works.

If I had an SSD, I'd certainly try to use it rather than the old hard drive, but I don't understand your explanation very well.

You can download a Windows 8.1 ISo and install that, no need to go back to Windows 8.

When you install to the SSD, make sure you delete and y and all partitions so it's one onallocated drive then click Next to let the installer create the partitions it needs.
