gparted is a partitioning program.. you create a partition and copy your data onto it, then do a clean install of windows 7 then copy your data back....

Where would I do that? On my external Hard Drive? Is there a guide or something on how to do that? Thanks.

Tks Tews.
Rosefox, I suggest then you use GParted. You have to create a boot CD, boot from it and then copy the partition where you have your data to the extrernal drive.

Please be very careful, don't move, partition, format or delete anything, and if you can get help from a more experienced person, please do so. There is a risk you can have a very expensive paperweight if something goes wrong. Well, probably you would loose your data but not damage the computer, but I am deliberately trying to scare you into it

let us know how it goes

Thanks for your help guys, I do have a question. Is there a guide or something I can follow when using this? I'm sort of lost as to what I need to select for it to do the backup.

Be sure to burn it as a disc image at the slowest possible speed, then insert it in your dvd drive and reboot your machine....

Rosefox, all I know is what is in their website or by using it.

I am starting to regret I suggested that. I really don't want to offend you, but from your question I am afraid you don't have enough knowledge to accomplish this, and I would hate to have you loose your files by following my suggestion. If you can have somebody to help you phisically there, that is what you should do now. Loading different OS's and playing with partitions can go very wrong.

I have seen other members saying they used Geek Squad at Best Buy (no, I don't work for them). They can probalby backup your drive right there, it will cost you some money, but might be worth it.

I live in a small town the nearest best buy is about 2 hours away so that's really not an option for me sadly. =\

Question: What if I were to install windows 7 on my external Hard Drive, make my laptop boot from that External Hard Drive then once the installation was over, copy the files I want from my internal Hard Drive and be done with it. Would that work?
