PC not loading up boot usb, usb is good.

Hey all,

I'm having an issue with my computer. Let me provide a little history first. About a month ago, I have Windows 7 installed just fine. Then I decided to move to a pre-release version of Windows 10. Then I formatted my drive and installed Ubuntu Linux. I currently still have Ubuntu Linux, but I want Windows 7 on a dual boot so that I can play games easily and with little need for special configuration through Wine\PlayOnLinux...

Last night I made a usb bootdisk which I confirmed works now from two separate machines. This usb drive will not load up on my PC for some reason though. I've checked my boot settings and I have USB as the first choice, and I've gone as far to remove the harddrive (I have 3) which contains my installation of Linux\Grub. The issue persists, except on the latter when the drive is removed, I simply get a message asking me to insert the boot media and press a button.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for what to try. I tried posting this on Tom's Hardware and the moderator there accepted the first (very incorrect) solution that was posted... That "solution" was stating that I needed to clear out my drive because of Windows 10, but I already did that when I installed Ubuntu. In the past, I had installed all of my operating systems with a USB stick, so I know it works. All of the usb ports work just fine. I'm guessing it must be some wonky setting in my BIOS that's forbidding it, but it's one of those hideous UEFI BIOS's which are supposed to make life wonderful (I prefer my old school keyboard only legacy BIOS).

IF anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate. I suppose I COULD just VM Windows inside of Linux, but that's not a very efficient solution. I just want Windows back to play my games, otherwise I wouldn't ever touch Windows again with a 10 ft pole.

No guru in this but my thoughts might point you in the right direction.

Window must always be the primary system, Windows then linux.
Multiple hard drives confuse the system, load you primary OS on the master hard drive, the others should be disconnected.

Pop into the tutorials subforum search on dual booting.
