    Hi,
I believe you said you connected the drive to another computer and formatted it ?
Run clean and or clean all with the same method.

yes, i took the Dell HD out of computer and connected it to the sata/ide adapter, which is then connected to my own computer. this is what i got when i cked disk management area.........

    simple....basic......NTFS......healthy (primary partition)
basic...931.51 GB......39MB health .........RECOVERY is 17.55GB NTFS healthy (active, primary partition)............OS 913.93 NTFS healthy (primary partition)

when i click on OS (dell hd) folder is empty... click on recovery for this HD, there are 2 folders...1 is recovery and its empty, the other is snapshot.....snapshots file folder has 3 DAT FILES......control, layout, snapshot....any ideas?????

also this is how i did the quick format..........

when i click on OS it shows empty folder...across the top of the box, it says, file, home, share, view, manage.....i click on manage then i see optimize, clean up, format..i click format...then a box says format OS... capacity 913GB, NTFS file sys......allocation unit size 4096 bytes volume label...OS.......format options, all that is there is quick format and its cked...........so how can i do a full complete clean/format with this HD hooked to the adapter which is connected to my own computer? im thinking the quick format didnt get into any bad sectors, and maybe there is a bad sector right where STARTING WINDOWS is, and thats why it wont go to next screen and start up................

so how do i go about doing a full clean/format when its hooked to MY computer?? and from what i typed here does primary partition mean anything??

ok....did the comd prompt diskpart clean all.....i feel the HD doing whatever its doing.....now when its done, will the black screen, diskpart window say that the cleaning is done???

i clicked on disk management and went to storage just to see and the disk thats being cleaned says 931.51 unallocated has lines in the space but also says not initialized.......so does that mean because its still cleaning??? so will the cmd black box say when its done cleaning??? so i can exit out of there???

    when this is all done cleaning and im set to do the partition......i just want a basic HD and be able to install win 7 home prem OS...so the part that says about choosing how much space to allocate etc etc...what am i to put?? this is a 1TB HD and i have a win 7 home prem reinstall dvd...i dont want it to be more complicated then i is..........before i did all this i told you what the format box said for a quick format.....capacity was 913GB ntfs allocation unit size said either default or 4096 and other numbers too actually.... so basically, what should i put for normal partition when asked???;

    A long time
If windows pops up and prompts you to initialize it close the popup window you are already do it in command prompt
Follow the tutorial and be patient 1tb of space is a lot it may take 8hrs to clean all.

yea but the tutorial looks like as soon as its done cleaning it goes right into partitioning, it has to be INITIALIZED 1st doesnt it??

    Hi,
No command prompt does that by you following the tutorial,
I can't very well post every step of the tutorial
But after clean all or clean is finished,
    Create a partition
You format that again following the tutorial.
Then you mark that partition Active.
    Then exit command prompt.

Shut down the computer = it's the easiest way to remove the device safely in win-7.
Then disconnect the device and install it in the other machine.
Start the machine and enter into the boot menu,
Insert the disk and boot to it,

    See what happens

well, NOTHING happened......i did just what tutorial said, followed it all......created a partition used the 100GB suggestion, it did everything the ex showed.....exit and shut it down took it off the adapter and hooked it back into the dell.......made sure dvd was 1st boot, turned it on and watched windows loading files load up then starting windows screen and then hangs AGAIN......i dont even get the little colored things that form into the window, just the words STARTING WINDOWS, and thats it....i hear the dvd still on high running , then it slows down.......so alll that and its still doing the same thing...........

its a 1TB seagate HDD all cleaned and partitioned just like your EX.... its a dvd from DELL......so i have no idea why its hanging on that screen...........when i go into F2 setup and go to boot, it shows the HDD 1st then it says hard disk then it says cd/dvd then usb etc etc........all i did was change the 1st boot from HDD to dvd hit enter save and exit
    any thoughts????
