    Installing apps - Admin or standard account?


    Hi,

    I want to know if it makes a difference whether I install applications under the Admin or standard account. When I upgraded from XP to W7, I decided to setup an admin and a standard account. I know computers well but all my life, I always had one account but now want to be more secure.

    I have been installing some applications under the Admin account and others under the Standard.

    Does it matter? Is there any difference? Will I have a problem doing one over the other?

    mkarias, usually you will have to log in as admin or provide an admin password to install an application. In the end, Win7 will see you as the admin. Standard accounts can't do many changes to the computer (that is the idea actually)

    Thank you. Yes, I know that the password is asked if I install a software under the Standard account. However, I was not sure if it really makes a difference whether I install a program under the Admin or Standard account.

    You are going to be kept quite busy keeping up with your two accounts.

    The first thing I do when I install WIndows is enable the hidden adminsitrator account, log off, log back in as Administrator, delete my named account in User Accounts, then run as Administrator full time.

    I cannot see that I lose any level of security by doing this since I already know what I am doing.

    What I do lose is being second guessed on every thing, having access to files forbidden, and just about any other annoyance that once gave my computer more control over itself than it allowed me.
