Verifying DMI pool data stuck

Yea I was talking to all of my friends asking for advice. So far the only person that helped told me that because he can't really say what the problem is without looking at it, the best thing is to just backup data and format + do clean install of windows.
I'm thinking if I can just burn the ISO onto a flash drive, I could use that to install windows after the format. Hopefully I don't have to do that, because then I'd have to go buy a 4gb flash drive (and wouldn't have any use for it after).

So yea, Paragon somehow screwed my external hard drive (at 99% it froze, so I tried canceling it - which didn't work - so I just disconnected the hard drive, and for some reason it's not even detectable anymore) but I managed to get the important files I need on a flash drive.

I'm sure it said Vista/2000, I can double check, I used the paragon you posted before you said there was a new version out (so maybe it doesn't even know about 7 yet)

I don't know if something's up w/ the HD, maybe (because of the incomplete file transfer), but at the same time I can see what's in the HD with paragon.

I was not able to transfer the install ISO off the computer (because it was too large, and my external is messed up now), but I should be able to get it again. (No DVD)

Right now I'm going to try using a vista boot recovery disk to see if that's the problem.

What are my options? I don't want to just rely on wiping the computer!

Ok, so I put in the windows vista recovery disk, and instead of taking me to the repair, it takes me to the install windows vista. i clicked on repair and it takes me to the same thing that windows 7 has "system recovery options" with the same scanner and command prompt. However the scan takes a lot longer but still does not detect a problem. Surely it will be easier to get hold of a dvd r than a 4gb flash drive?

There could be something wrong with the files/filesystem - that would cause Paragon to halt. Normally you would run check disk on the drive.

Unplugging the external hasn't helped.

Will probably be ok when you have reinstalled.

If you have another pc running Vista/7 you can connect to the sick one - you can install by extracting the wim onto the drive of the sick machine, and use bcdboot command to create the boot critical files.

Restart the sick machine and install completes in 5 mins.

I usually do it that way. It's very common. There is a tutorial here:

Instead of that, you may even be able to just extract the files from the iso onto the HD of the good machine , run setup, and point it at the HD of the sick machine.

Youi can extract the files from the iso with any isohandler, PowerIso, UltraIso, MagicIso - they all have free versions you could use. 7zip free will do it too.

Ok, well it seems like I really don't have many other options, as the problem is pretty much impossible to locate. When I get the DVD-R tomorrow, I will burn the ISO file onto a DVD. I'm not going to try to install to this computer, just because I don't want to run the chance of ruining this computer too. So I'm thinking this is what I'm going to do.
Reformat computer -> boot from the windows 7 DVD -> install (and hope it works)

This should work right? I've been reading about the upgrade / full. Seems like there's no difference.

Alright, I woke up in the middle of the night, and re-read the latest post you made. Looks like I totally missed the link. I looked through the link and it seems that most of it can be done via command prompt. Installing on a separate partition, but still being able to boot into it. Only thing is, because I can only access the command prompt via the recovery disk, how do I go about launching Daemon Tools Lite and mounting an ISO on it (with the command prompt)? If this can work out, I wouldn't even have to wipe my system! I really need to get back to sleep, 2 AM!

Hm.. so you're saying I can extract the ISO onto this computer (the working one) and then run setup (but setup onto the broken HD)? How do I go about doing that if I can't do the command prompt thing. I would need some sort of wire to connect the two computers right? I've never done anything like this before, so please advise!

I've got the DVD-R's now and I also have a 8GB flash drive. Tried using ImgBurn to make the DVD with the ISO, it could not finish the verify step, saying that the medium is not right. So now I've set up my flash drive as NTFS and did the bootsect.exe /nt60 thing on it, not too sure what that does (probably something to do with bootable) and am copying ISO (emulated) over to it. Changed BIOS on broken comp to USB-FDD USB-ZIP (for first/second boot device), gonna try it and see what happens. Any advice?

Alright, so I was able to boot from the USB (with 7 files on it) after going into boot menu and selecting hard disk -> the USB drive. Right now I'm going through the same installation process I did before, except on my storage partition (hopefully it'll be faster with no files to copy) and we'll see how this goes. In the meantime I'm trying to get a more recent version of windows 7 (Oct 22, 2009) and going to try and do the same (either with a DVD-R, or with the flash drive that I'll empty if it doesn't work).

Well the install worked when I did it again, I now have two Windows 7 installed on my computer, selecting the second at boot up works. Haven't tried not using the USB yet. Does this mean I can uninstall the first instance of windows 7 and just boot up with the second?

Turns out the first Windows 7 on the boot up is the new one just installed, the second one is the old installed one. Strange...
