    Dual Boot

    Hello all,

I need some information to help me change the setup on my pc. My current setup is like this:
I have a 250gb SSD for my system files (windows 7) but I have two partitions with dual boot:

Partition A 180gb with my main Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

    Partition B 70gb with Windows 7 Pro

I want to keep both windows but I want to add a second drive and move the partition B into the new drive.
Is that possible without losing any data? If so, how should I do it?

    Thank you

That could only be reasonably done with a data drive. Doing that with a partition containing an OS would render it inoperable.

hummm ok, so let me think outside the box; what if I do this:

    • "clone" the drive;
    • go to the second drive (new hd) change the boot file to "boot" from the Windows 7 pro (was the second partition on the old drive)
    • go to the second drive (new hd) use a partition software to remove the first partition Windows 7 Ultimate (was the first partition on the old drive)
    • then, go back to the original drive use a partition software to remove the first second partition (Windows 7 pro)
    • finally manually change the boot file to redirect the dual mode to the second drive.

    is this possible?

Why would you remove the Ultimate install ?

And why do you need 2 versions of windows on the same PC ?????

I don't want to remove it; please see my first post; I have two partitions on my main HD; I want to add a second drive and move the the PRO into the second drive.

I need the PRO (second version) for studying

You said this right there in your post

That's because in Post #3 kpitao asked if cloning was a possible approach.
If the HD is cloned there will be 2 HD's, and each HD will have 2 OS's.
Ultimate would need to be removed from 1 of the HD's, and Pro removed from the other.
That would leave each HD with one OS, Ultimate on one, and Pro on the other.
It's probably doable, but it's not the way i would do it.

At the end of my post I asked if it was "possible" .... no one answer that
