Windows 7: Blue screen on boot but not BSOD

Blue screen on boot but not BSOD

I am trying to fix a friends computer for them.

Initially the screen output was very corrupted (hardly readable) and the computer was constantly going into repair mode but stating that it couldn't fix itself.

They have an SSD as their windows drive and a 2TB drive for all of their other 'stuff'. When I got the computer I put the SSD drive into my computer and saw that it was almost full (it's a 120GB drive). I know that's not good for SSD drives so I removed some of their files (photos, music etc.) that had ended up on there and freed up about 15-20GB.

I've managed to fix the video output so it is stable now and during my efforts to enable the drive to boot again I have ended up a point where it gets to the windows logo for about 1 second and then goes to a light blue screen (NOT a BSOD - just a blank, light blue screen). It won't boot into safe mode or any other option from F8. I've tried using a Windows 7 rescue disk, Easy Recovery Essentials and at one point, I was using some commands in DISKPART.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried now booting it in their computer? (not sure if you were trying it now on theirs or attempting to boot your comp with their drive, which will not work due to different MB, drivers, completely dissimilar hardware...)

They should be able to do a repair install if they have the correct install media....

I only put the drive into my computer to get some files off of it, I've only ever tried booting it in their computer (which I have with me as it's useless to them at the moment). They can't find the disc(s) they should have got with it so I've tried a copy of Win7 (same version) that I've got to repair it but no luck.

A bit more info - when it goes to the blue screen the computer isn't frozen, I can press ctrl-alt-del to restart it or F8 to go back to the advanced boot menu, it just won't go past the windows logo on boot. I've made sure that all the cables are plugged in correctly and done a chkdsk on the SSD.
