    Have you tried?

Why not make another recovery dvd?

    find the following files:

    C:\ProgramData\Hewlett-Packard\Recovery\hpdrcu.prc
    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Recovery\hpdrcu.sys

Add .bak to the ends of each of these files eg: hpdrcu.prc.bak

I don't believe copying a recovery partition to a USB stick will make a bootable USB stick with a Recovery.
I believe one has to clone it onto a USB stick, or onto a DVD.

I don't know what kind of files they are.
You might need to temporarily show hidden and protected files to be able to see them.
