Cannot install Windows 7, help please

Hey guys, I am a new user here, have a problem installing windows 7,

Stuck on "Failed to create a partition on the selected unused space" Error 0x8007045d.

i will try to explain step by step what happened:
Was running Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron Laptop
Wanted to do Factory Image Restore
An error occured, and when I tried rebooting it gave me a blue screen error page
Did not get onto XP system again
Now I thought I may try installing Windows 7 to correct it
I was unable to install it, it failed after trying many times

"When I try normally starting the computer it comes with this error : "No boot sector on Internal Hard Drive"

When I try installing Windows 7, the part where it asks me which drive to install it, I select the only drive shown, which has about 149gb of 149gb free, it does not let me (says Windows cannot be installed on this drive).

Does not let me format the drive either.

    Please help.

    Thank you

To clarify, I get to the "Select drive to install Windows on" stage, but when I click next, after about 10 mins of waiting, it says "Failed to create a partition on the selected unused space" Error 0x8007045d. And when i try to click "new" it says I cannot do it.

And format option is off, so i cannot do that (I dont know if that is needed though)

thanks and sorry if I sound very novice

Maybe you have a failing hard drive.

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

Hi, I currently have no operating system, and their is no bootable sector, so wouldn't know how to install something to check the harddrive.

If the harddrive is the problem, what can I do?
    Any other solution?

    Thanks

You can use Linux to see if it will install ?
