    Clean install

    Howdy

I am having all sorts of startup problems. I think it is time I did a fresh install. I have basically two partitions on my hard drive. A windows partition and a data partition. I want to do a clean install on my windows partition but don't want to disrupt my data partition.

I know how to reformat but I'm not sure it is what you call a clean install.

Can you point to a post that I can read

    Thanks

Here you go, do not format your data partition, only the partition you want to install windows on, you will know it by its size.

Make sure you highlite the install partition, then click drive options to format it. Once again, be sure you do not format your data partition.

It would also be advisable to back up your data partition beforehand, so if you make a mistake you will still have the data backed up.

FYI: You might want to save your data to an external hard drive. Having a data partition on your drive is fine, but in the event of a drive failure, your data's gone to the great beyond along with your windows.

Having another internal drive for data is the best option, and would be cheaper and easier to use then an external.

That's fine if you have a desktop, but if you have a laptop, you'll need the external.
