Windows won't boot
I was in the process of trying for the free Windows 10 upgrade. After several unsuccessful attempts, and after W10 install instructions to remove Acronis True Image 12, Windows now won't start. The most recent change was to uninstall the graphics card driver. Windows 10 install began a couple of times w/o the card driver or acronis, but now will not start at all. I've tried:
- Windows repair utility - it doesn't identify a problem and says there is no restore point
- Start in safe mode to restore graphics driver
- Used "System Repair Disc" that I created when I installed 7 pro. It went through a series of tests and said that results would be reported on restart. Restarted but nothing - still goes to "windows is starting" then nothing.
What should I try next? I have the original install disc but I'd rather not reinstall windows because I don't want to reinstall all my programs. Most of the data is on another computer so data loss is not a problem.
ADDED LATER:
Inserted the w seven install disc and choose the repair option. After scanning the computer it returns in "diagnosis and repair details - boot status indicates that the is booted successfully"
Still, when I try to start the Windows logo appears and then the monitor reports "mode not supported"
