There was another question, similar to yours. I answered of course, while others said no, their answer surprised me. The first poster never got back, with results, so I do not have a definitve answer. I now have a second chance to give what all will agree is a correct answer.

Make an image of your drive, then give it a try. The trick, when asked for your key number, do not give it, just keep going (this will not cause a problem). When you are done, try it for a few days make sure you like it. Once sure give your key number. If the number is rejected, you will be given a number to call, to activate by computer. If that does not work a person will talk to you. Give the facts. If you are truly legit, he will activate for you. If you were in error, just reinstall with the image I instructed you to make earlier and go out and get a new key for yourself.

You did not mention, if there is and OS on both computers that you can upgrade.

Not very likely. Is there a clean copy of Upgrade DVD - explore DVD files to see? How about a key?

Even if there's a clean upgrade installer without HP add-ins, any key would most likely be linked somehow to upgraded Vista OEM or be a 7 OEM which ties to hardware. You would need to research this carefully.

Or simply try it, as rich suggests.
