    Win7 to W10 and back

I disconnected all my HDD/SSD's and clean installed W10 on a fresh SSD. I did this mainly to ensure W10 and my hardware were compatible. I am now back on W7 from my original disks and working fine. QUESTION: Will MS be satisfied when I reinstall my W10 SSD at some time in the distant future and still maintain my "free" upgrade digital entitlement.

That was the fishing story I read that you can keep both but never let 10 feel the win-7 install on the computer.
Dual booting you'll still need to disconnect the other os while using the other if that makes any sense

Act like you're installing 10 except for the data drives you had connected or connected after installing 10.

Thanks, understand that. I will not be dual booting and will not have W7 and W10 ssd's powered up at the same time. I have a 3.5 inch front panel mounted tray for 2x 2.5" drives. This allows for changing between the two rather easy.

That's the way you do it :)
Also win-10 will never mess up your win-7 boot loader either
But ultimately what I read was dual booting on the same drive or connect 2nd drive at the same time or in a vm you'd have to buy win-10 or give up 7 because 7 will become not genuine if 10 see it
10 is very aware of connected drives

    Not like linux
Linux can tell if someone is dual booting even if the drive is not connected
