Windows 7: Cd/dvd driver error installing windows 7 professional 64 bit

Cd/dvd driver error installing windows 7 professional 64 bit

Hi all, first post from me.
I have an Acer Aspire laptop, and have spent the weekend getting rid of windows 10, then windows 8, then taking the hdd out to format in my desktop pc.
It currently has a single partition not marked as active, system, logical, or anything at all.
I have the same problem as this earlier thread

Setup error "A Require CD/DVD Device Driver is missing"

And will try tonight the suggestion in there of starting the setup in my desktop pc then transferring it back to the laptop.

As in this thread I have no cd drive, have tried installing from USB flash, USB hdd, even sd card!

I have no idea what mobo is installed. All I know is that there is only 1 sata connection on it for the hdd.
If there was a spare I was going to try installing from a sata cd plugged into it.

I have a possibly stupid idea, which sounds very long winded, if I got a sata cd drive, and plugged this into the mobo, and put a USB hdd caddy holding the laptops hdd into a USB port, would it install to the hdd? Then plug it in replacing the cd drive...

There are probably many reasons why not, including I would have to buy a caddy and sata cd just to try it.

Windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1

Well, a big thankyou to AddRAM from the link above who provided the hdd swap suggestion - it worked a treat, I now have Windows 7 pro 64 bit installed on my laptop

Now the fight to find all the drivers for the laptop as Acer only provides W10 drivers for the Acer Aspire v11 touch !

Windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1

Very close - laptop came with 8.1 - I upgraded to 10 a couple of months ago as couldnt get on with 8.1, realised I didnt like 10 either and wanted 7 as on my desktop.

Only way to get rid of 10 and 8.1 completely that I knew of was to remove the hdd and format / repartition it, which I did by swapping it for the cd/dvd drive in my desktop.

Just 2 drivers to find now - usb drivers and drivers to get the wifi working, Acer does not list w7 drivers for this pc - so its getting to be a struggle, all I know about the mobo comes via speccy.

(This laptop has an SD card slot which works - the only way I can get files onto it at present)

Manufacturer Acer
Model R2 (cpu 1)
version Type2 - A01 Board version
Intel chipset
chipset model - Bay Trail host bridge
Chipset revision OE

Bios - Insyde corp Version V1.03 date 22/07/2014

Windows 7 professional 64 bit SP1

Hi Oscar - the only details listed under device manager for items with a yellow exclamation mark are ....

Reaktek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Interface

Looking for drivers using their own search via internet they just show searching.

Sorry Oscar - just got around to playing with the laptop again.

The following 2 items are still highlighted in Device manager.

On the laptop itself the USB ports do not work (1 x USB 2.0 and 1 x USB 3.0) and the touchscreen does not work.

Reaktek PCIe GBE Family Controller =

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Interface - After all the Windows updates and installing various Acer website drivers to see if any worked this is no longer highlighted in Device manager, so I am assuming whatever driver this is for is now working ok.

Should I not be able to get the USB ports working I may have to try installing W10 - as this version of W7 activated ok and the upgrade offer has come through, and then try and figure out how to install W7 too - so the USB ports work, and the W10 drivers run the laptop ok, but I can use W7 as the OS.

I would start another topic for this though!
