Attempting to upgrade from W7 to W10

At the moment, I'm running a genuine copy of W7 Pro 64bit with SP1 on my laptop. My Windows Updates in Control Panel is on & running on automatic with nothing blocked. The required KB3035583 update is installed & successful.

Why then is the "Get W10" icon not showing in the system tray?

I've gone down so many routes to try and get it to appear, all without success.

Can anyone help with this please? It's driving me up the wall!!!

    Hi,
Yea win-7's upgrade adviser was way too simple to download and run
Now you must reserve your download and it runs :)
Doesn't do you much good without the icon though
Get Windows 10 app - Check Compatibility Report for Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Have you tried to uninstall KB3035583 and reinstall it ?

The tutorial you want is Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums takes you directly to installation of upgrade without the GWX app

    @ thrashzone ...
thank you for your post ...
yes ... i was jumping through hoops to try and get the icon into the system tray despite the 3035583 update sitting comfortably on my computer! never managed it!
followed the link you gave me but it didn't get very far as it too required the gwx icon to be activated.
then i deleted the 3035583 update, shut the computer down, re-booted and updated once more. it appeared in windows update again but still nothing in the system tray .... GGRRRRR!!!

    @ barman58 ...
the link was interesting in that i saw it referred to tenforums rather than seven. perhaps i wrongly assumed that because i was running w7, i should put my original post in this forum so my apologies on that. i have now joined tenforums as well.
had a good read of the link and decided to go ahead. try as i might, i couldn't get 4A to work so decided to search the web for the microsoft media creation tool and eventually found it here. downloading the file was easy and then i continued your tutorial at the 4B mark. the rest was even easier and apart from taking quite a while to completion, all without prompting, it followed the tutorial exactly.

so i'm now a very happy chappie and will mark this thread 'solved'.

thank you both for your help ... very much appreceited.

    Hello mipak, :)

What issue were you having with step 4A in the tutorial below?

Clicking on the download button should take you to Microsoft's site to then click on the "Download tool now" button there and download the MediaCreationTool.exe file.

    hi there ...
i'm not sure what happened yesterday but i went back to the computer this morrning, i cleared the screen apart from the my browser and clicked on the 4a download link again. there was no response but on the 3rd attempt, things started happening and the windows 10 setup window appeared with the title 'getting a few things ready'. i didn't bother going any further but it was obvious that it was at least on the way to completion.
i have no idea why i had such hassle. if the link has worked okay with others, the cause must be here but i've not really come across this before and my keyboard seems okay particularly the 'enter' button so i am at a bit of a loss.
don't know if this helps you but i'm not sure what else i can say apart from saying my w10 is running well.
