I don`t find any tutorials on fixing windows update problems.

You can try this at your own risk.

    Troubleshooting Windows Update Errors -

And what do you mean "Updated from Vista to 7" ????

I surely hope it was a clean install and not an upgrade, you should have been on the phone to the tech addressing this problem already, after all you paid him to do the job didn`t you ?

From the comments made in the first post, sounds like Kb971033, has not yet been installed.

Thanks Roy I will look into this. I have had no updates only security ones. I know it seems lax but I rarely use my laptop. My PC has all the updates..

Yes it was a clean install and he is just so busy at the moment I cant get hold of him. I didn't realise I had a problem until trying to install windows 10. it isn't important but I just want to try and sort it out.
    thanks.

    ODD

Looking at your screenshot your running MSE and AVG.
Now i understood that if a 3rd party AV is installed then MSE is automatically turned OFF.
Would you please uninstall AVG, (unless its paid version/remove mse).

Try updates again, and if they fail, run the tool from this link

The activation code showing is not the bulk standard vista/W7, and i therfore assume your Tech activated it via phone..

Note W10 appears to have been downloaded.

    I agree, AVG is garbage

MSE and MBAM are all you need.

I have been using avg internet security for my business and personal computors for quite a few years now and to call it Garbage is a bit ridiculous. it has kept me secure in all ways but of course it comes at a cost.

AVG is not the anti virus program it was years ago. I haven't read anything good about it in a long time.

Of course if you still want to use it by all means please do so.

thanks for that permission... As the guy who fixed my windows 7 said there is nothing to choose between the two programs I know which works for me. And I know I can get help from AVG if needed.
My laptop is now windows 10 but I am leaving windows 7 on my main PC for now

No need to be lippy. Choose what ever you want to use.
Take any advice given or don't. Your call.

This was asked in post #15 by torchwood to post the log.
