Repair install stopped by compatibility report

My computer was stuck in a start up repair loop so I'm now doing a repair install via usb but it keeps getting interrupted by a compatibility report saying "computer started using installation disc. Remove install disc and restart computer so Windows starts normally. Then insert disc and restart upgrade"

I'm not incompetent when it comes to computers but I'm far from an i.t. expert so you may or may not have to dumb it down

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like it is trying to upgrade perhaps (probably?) to Windows 10.

Whenever you do a new install ALWAYS disconnect from the Internet before you begin. Reconnect only after the fresh install is complete.

OK, good. (You are one of the few who doing it properly!)

What I focused on was the phrase "... and restart upgrade." as I didn't expect that during a repair of an existing installation.

Now I'm not sure where to go from here - I hope other members can join in to help.
